British Ambassador plants a tree to celebrate World Environment Day

The UK Climate Change Act (2008) is the first in the world to legislate for a reduction in carbon emissions.  The UK is committed to reducing 80% of its emissions by 2050.

The British Government is also taking action on its own emissions.  Its aims to reduce emissions from its offices by 30% and recycle 75% of its waste by 2020.

To mark the UK's achievements, the British Ambassador, Dr. Rachel Aron, will be holding a carbon neutral celebration
of Her Majesty The Queen's Birthday Party. The event will be held on official property which uses 100% green electricity and all emissions created by the event will be offset by planting trees.

The Ambassador celebrated World Environment Day by planting the first of these trees in Parc Rene Pechere, Woluwe Saint Lambert.
