I am delighted to welcome you to the British Embassy website. I hope it will give you a flavour of all the varied work we do here in Belgium as well as answer most of the questions and queries you have about the UK and Belgium, the Embassy as well as the services it offers. I hope also that you will find the news and events we record here interesting.

I took up my post here as British Ambassador in November 2007 and am tremendously enjoying getting to know this country and, most importantly, the people in it. Britain and Belgium have a wide range of shared interests and work together as neighbours.  Our two countries are also active partners in the EU and the UN and many other international organisations.

There is a large British community here (roughly 50 000) and over a million British tourists stay in Belgian hotels and campsites each year. Our trade links are considerable: Belgium is Britain's sixth largest export market and inward investment from Belgium created almost 700 jobs in the UK in 2006. We in Britain place a high value - rightly! - on Belgian chocolate and beer and have a special affection for Tin Tin while there's hardly a night of the week where British made TV programmes aren't on showing on Belgian TV. So we've got a lot going for our relationship at all levels and it's a privilege for me to represent Britain here.
