Queen's Speech debate 2009 23 November 2009
David Miliband took part in a debate in the House of Commons on the Queen's Speech 2009.
Minister for Europe Glenys Kinnock spoke about the challenges Europe faces during a speech at Chatham House on Thursday 18 June.
She focused on three particular challenges facing Europe: securingeconomic recovery; tackling climate change, and tackling global povertyand conflict. She said:
'It is very clear that the EU today faces some of its toughestchallenges. But we live in an age where our interests, in terms of theeconomy, the environment, security, are more bound up than ever withthe rest of the world. It follows that the role and importance of theEU has never been greater.'

Minister for Europe Chris Bryant is in Cyprus on 22-25 November for ministerial meetings and discussions on a wide range of issues.
Baroness Kinnock is visiting Jamaica on 23-24 November for high level ministerial meetings and to discuss many issues including climate change.
The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mr Anthony Shaun Cleary has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Mozambique in succession to Mr Andrew Soper.
