Theft and pick pocketing is a problem in crowded areas. You should take extra care of your belongings and passports at all train stations, but in particular at the Gare du Midi (Eurostar terminal) in Brussels.

Recently, there has been a rise in attacks, especially against women. The police advises the following:

  • Avoid getting cash from ATM machines on the street
  • Always hide handbags/valuables when driving (under your seat is best)
  • Avoid carrying your handbag across your chest as while this may make it harder for thieves to 'snatch' your handbag, it also increases the risk of injury
