LOST OR STOLEN PASSPORT

If your passport has been lost or stolen, you must report the incident immediately to the nearest police station. You must obtain a copy of the police report called “proces-verbal”. Next download and complete an LS01-form from the British Embassy Paris website and report the loss to the Consular Section in Brussels who will cancel your passport.

If you are resident in Belgium, the police report and LS01-form will need to be sent to the British Consulate General in Paris when applying for a replacement passport.

If you need to travel back to the UK, we can issue you with an Emergency Travel Document which is valid for one single journey back to the United Kingdom.

If you are in the United Kingdom, contact your nearest Identity and Passport Service (IPS) Office on their Passport Advice Line (0870 521 0110) for guidance.

If you later find the passport you have declared as lost or stolen, return it immediately to the nearest British Embassy/Consulate or Identity and Passport Service office. Once you report your passport as lost or stolen, the passport is electronically cancelled and you are not able to use it as legal proof of identity, nationality or for any other legal purpose. You must not use it to travel, as this may cause the passport to be impounded by the Immigration Service at UK ports or airports. If attempting to travel overseas, you could face deportation or arrest. You must not use it as a means of identification, as this may be detected as a potentially fraudulent act.

Please note:
  • a check with the issuing post of the lost/stolen passport may be required.  This could involve a delay in the issue of a replacement passport
  • that once you have reported your passport lost or stolen, it is no longer valid for travel, even if you find it again.  As the loss or theft will be reported internationally, those unwise enough to ignore this advice can expect close attention on arrival in a number of countries, and face being refused entry.

Requirements:
  • two recent identical photographs taken within the last three months
  • proof of identity
  • police report
  • the appropriate fee
